Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising Goes Gold

According to a press release February 22nd, THQ announced that fans of the successful RTS Warhammer 40,000 franchise, Dawn of War, won’t have to wait long to see the newest installment.  As a followup to Dawn of War II, Chaos Rising is a brand new Games for Windows Live standalone expansion at a very reasonable cost of $29.99 US.  It boasts a brand new playable race, the Chaos Space Marines, a raised level cap from 20 to 30, a brand new campaign, more multiplayer options, and of course, phat new loots!  If you haven’t tried out the original Dawn of War II, I highly suggest picking up the demo – haters of RTS who are fans of dungeon crawlers may be surprisingly interested in the single player and co-op.

“Chaos Rising is the perfect follow up to Dawn of War II, 2009’s RTS Game of the Year, offering an incredible amount of new content for an amazing value.”
– Travis Plane, Vice President of Global Brand Management, THQ.

Now the real question is with a release date of March 11th, two days after Final Fantasy XIII, will anyone really care?  I loved the first, and I’m hoping I do, but I honestly don’t know the answer to that one.

GamersOnlyOlder is Now Mobile Friendly and Accepting Comments!

I’ve recently installed a new plug-in that makes the website more friendly to mobile web browsers.  If you’re anything like me, you hit a lot of gaming sites while you’re on the move, and this is targeted to help you.  You don’t need to know any special address or anything, the plug-in will auto detect your device.  The aesthetics of the mobile version will be changing, but we didn’t want to hesitate on bringing you the functionality right away.  I’d love to hear feedback on this, so feel free to use our brand new comment system, by creating an account, logging in, and letting us know what you think!

Top 5 Hardest Game Boy/GBC Games

The current series of Top 5 lists that Scott and I are doing in the lead-up to MGC 2010 has been good thus far, but something that we have skipped over entirely has been the portable systems. Hence, I am going to be doing a web-only series of Top 5s detailing what I think are the most difficult Game Boy, GBA, and DS games that I ever played. I would love to include the other portable systems, but my severe lack of experience with them somewhat precludes me from doing so.

New SSF4 Trailer, Including Ibuki, Makoto & Dudley

So here it is, a brand new trailer with the brand new announced characters – you excited?

Props to BluSteele86 for original link.

Famitsu Reveals Makoto, Ibuki and Dudley to join the Cast for Super

Revealed earlier today via scans from Famitsu, three characters from Street Fighter III are confirmed to be coming to the upcoming release of Super SFIV.  This does not come as much of a surprise considering the vast majority of previously announced characters came from other titles in the series: Super SFII (in T. Hawk and Dee Jay), Alpha (in Adon, Cody and Guy), and the only exception so far announced in the brand new Juri.  With the remaining rumored slot(s), all that really is begging to be asked now, is which character are you going to play?

Ibuki v Makoto
Being relatively new to the fighting game genre, you can bet that I’ll be spending a lot of time in the training room before I even come close to making that decision. Do any of you veterans already know? Well let us know what you think, by emailing us at podcast@gamersonlyolder.com

360’s Final Fantasy Comes on 3 Disc’s – Go Go Gadget Nerd Rage!

Final Fantasy EU Box ArtI fully realize that it’s the internet’s job to hate on anything that has hype surrounding it, and I’ll even admit to falling in that category at times myself.  However, there’s a new rant going around that I just don’t understand.  Via Kotaku, it has finally been confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will ship on 3 discs for the 360, and evidently, that’s a tremendous blow for the Sony fanboys out there.  In all actuality, it probably just means that the 360 version will have more compression than it’s PS3 counterpart in terms of audio, and in the end, that allows A/V geeks of the world to blast the 360 version. These are the same A/V geeks who use their iPhone or Zune to play ridiculously compressed mp3 audio through ear-bud speakers, smaller in diameter than a dime, made by the lowest bidder on the planet.

But I digress.

I actually remember a time when having multiple discs for a lengthy JRPG was a bullet point in it’s favor.  Personally, I always enjoyed the landmark of reaching disc 3.  It’s a unique feeling in games, that you won’t get to experience for much longer.  If you have both consoles, obviously go with the PS3 for the best quality and lead platform.  If you only have a 360, don’t worry, you won’t notice the difference anyway.  To all of the haters out there, get over yourself, it’s really not a big deal.
