Mad Moxxi – My First Trip to the Underdome

So after the glorious success of the Zombie Island DLC for Borderlands, it was an understatement to say that I was excited at the release of the second installment of DLC for this wonderful title.  By now, most people paying attention to Borderlands knows some of the bullet points of this $10 (800 space buck) download, but just in case you don’t, here’s a quick setup:

Mad Moxxi’s Underdome is a new area that is available via fast travel as soon as you hit your first New-U station.  [Read more...]

First Impressions of MadWorld

New Year’s Day is fast approaching, which means that the long holiday season is over for most of us. With that in mind, I’m going to take a moment to talk about one of my favorite new pick ups of the season which I grabbed from the super-cheap clearance bin at one of the big box stores. That game is MadWorld for the Wii. [Read more...]

INTERVIEW: Have a Question for Runic Games? (Torchlight)

Yup, that’s right, we’re pulling Runic Games in to talk to. We don’t have a 100% confirmation on who will be attending, but as of right now it’s set up with Max Schaefer (CEO) and Travis Baldree (President & Project Lead). It should be a fantastic time as we discuss the introduction of Runic Games, the development of Torchlight, the retail release, and what we’re looking to see out of the MMO down the road. So as always, we’re looking for questions that you want answered. So please join us by sending us some via email or voice mail at the standard channels:

FFXIII: Out in Japan! FFXIV: Accepting Beta Sign-ups!

Final Fantasy EU Box ArtRecently we saw the release of Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, and in fact, I’ve been doing everything in my power to avoid it.  Certainly, everyone by now should know that we’re big fans of the series over here on the Goo, but personally I want my first impressions of the new title hitting stateside March 9th to be when I unwrap it.  Avoiding the constant nagging sensation that I should be watching one of the abundant live streams on the internet, was quite the test in and of itself.

If you share my desire to avoid it, you can be distracted by other titles in the series.  Square Enix is looking for Beta testers for the next, supposedly greatly improved FF MMO experience, XIV, and you can find a sign up at here.  If you get selected and I don’t, let me know, because I will secretly and potentially curse your name to the high heavens of the chocobo gods.  On the other hand, if you’re looking for the older, much more grindy version – you can get the complete FF XI experience through Steam right now for $11.

REVIEW: Torchlight

Context:

I’ve played over 40 hours of Torchlight, split between three different characters. I have a character with each of the game’s classes, but I have definitely devoted the most time to my Alchemist. He is in the 32nd floor of the dungeon at the time of this writing, while the other two characters (Destroyer and Vanquisher) are hovering around the 10th floor. If you’ve been keeping up to date with the GOO podcast, you probably already know just how much of a fan of Torchlight I am (and how addicted, as well). And really, it isn’t that hard to become hooked on a game as good as this one is for its genre.

Story:

(Pretext: Each of the character classes has a slight variation in the story at the onset of the game, but your choice does not affect the plot thereafter; each class has to fight the same baddies and bosses along the way.) [Read more...]

Darksiders – “Heads Will Roll”

So, I realize that between God of War clones, more of the original killer of gods, and an over-the-top scantily clad woman with guns in her boots that early 2010 is looking to be the season of 3D combat action games. Personally, I have no problem with that, and I seem to be in the minority yet again that it’s Darksiders that is intriguing me the most of said releases. Slated to hit January 5th, this part-action, part-Zelda title looks to be shaping up nicely, check the new “Heads Will Roll” trailer below.
